Domain Transfer Overview

A domain transfer is the process of moving your domain name registration from your current provider (registrar) to FavoHost. Transferring your domain allows you to manage your website hosting and your domain name all in one simple, secure place, with one bill.

This guide provides a general overview of the transfer process.

Before You Start: Your Transfer Checklist

To ensure a smooth and successful transfer, you must first prepare your domain at your current domain registrar before you place an order with us.

Please log in to your current registrar's control panel and complete these four steps:

  1. Unlock Your Domain: Your domain must be unlocked. This is a security setting that prevents unauthorized transfers.

  2. Disable WHOIS/Privacy Protection: You must temporarily turn off any WHOIS or Privacy Protection service for the domain.

  3. Get the EPP Code: You need to get the "EPP Code" or "Authorization Code" from your current registrar. This is like a password for your domain transfer.

  4. Check Domain Age & Status: The domain must be at least 60 days old and must not be in an "Expired" status. Also, make sure you can receive emails at the domain's official administrator email address.

The Transfer Process at FavoHost

Once you have prepared your domain, the process on our side is simple:

  1. Go to our Transfer Domain and enter the domain name you want to move.

  2. During the checkout process, you will be asked to provide the EPP/Authorization Code that you got from your old registrar.

After you enter your EPP code and add the transfer to your cart, the rest of the checkout and verification process is the same as registering a new domain. For the remaining steps, please follow our guide:

How Long Does It Take?

A standard domain transfer can take anywhere from 5 to 7 days to complete. This is a standard timeframe across all domain registrars.

Will My Website or Email Go Down?

No. The domain transfer process itself does not cause any downtime. Your website and email will continue to work normally throughout the entire process because your nameservers are not changed during the transfer.
